When I was just getting started drawing, a colleague in the Creative’s Workshop gave me some advice: a great way to connect with people, and draw the attention of businesses you want to work with, is by giving them a gift.
No, I’m not talking about gift baskets (although the jury is still out on that one). How can you share your value and find a way to resonate with your customer’s needs in a personal way?
While giving out freebies may sound counterintuitive, it can offer valuable insights on the market for your product and the base you should be targeting. If no one ever gets back to you, good chance it’s the wrong crowd, product, or timing. Not to say you should give up, but proactively shipping to the public can lend guidance on better addressing the market, generating a feedback loop for your own creations based on human need.
In the very worst case scenario, you spread your name through gratitude, forging relationships based in generosity and thoughtfulness.
