You Do You
Talking to a friend the other day, he explained he had been so productive, just knocking shit out. He got this and that done for his company, for his job, and helped out his coworkers with a task. However, he said he felt disappointed. He didn’t work on his woodshop crafts, or practice his music. He didn’t learn anything new just because he wanted to. He said, “I didn’t do anything for me”.
How many times have we put off reading a book, trying out a new recipe, or writing a blog because we’ve been too busy? Sorry, work is just a lot right now, can’t get to it yet.
I started working on my art because it made me happy. I write these weekly blogs to reflect, to get out what has been gnawing at me the past several days. While I dearly hope my work and writing resonates with you, this practice is for me. It’s mine to cultivate and progress, to fulfill myself first.
Enough about me, let’s turn the tables. What have you done for you today? Did you take that extra long walk with the dog, play and practice your guitar, or paint the blank canvas that’s been sitting in your closet since June?
Cultivate yourself, and the seeds will grow.
