A Balancing Act
I have been trying to master a handstand for years. All I want is to hold a beautiful, straight, and strong handstand for a minute. At least that’s what I tell myself.
In a handstand tutorial I practiced recently, the teacher states that you will never be able to hold a handstand if you fling your legs up towards the wall. He believes the security of the wall, blocking yourself from toppling over, keeps you from ever learning the proper form to hold a magnificent handstand.

When I started this blog, it was created under a pseudonym (short unsweet). My rationale was that dissociation would help loosen up the buried vulnerabilities and anxieties of sharing my work. Surely, a separate identity would allow me more freedom to experiment in the public realm!
The opposite occurred. Not identifying with my name was oddly tiring, and indirectly supported the notion that I, and my work, was not worth identifying and sharing as my true self.
Maybe it sounds dramatic, but I think tackling these fears is better to do out loud - well, loudly typing from my laptop. We might fall backwards and lose our balance, but we will get stronger.
